Caught Transpennine (never thought they’d be the saviour) at 5.47. Got told we’d have to wait ten minutes while driver finished break. Left sixty seconds later.

Caught 16.42 Blackpool South to Colne to connect to Manchester train at Preston. Ten minutes late. And the heating was on whilst 25 degrees outside

17.24 Preston to Manchester Airport

Delayed. Said it was on time till 17.24 then went up a minute at a time until 17.27 then changed to 17.42. Excuse given was lack of train crew. We were talking to the train’s crew who were waiting for the train as well, so clearly not being told the truth.

Train turns up at 17.38, as part of Manchester to Blackpool 4 carriage train due at 17.32 so clearly was never going to depart on time. Train split into two so train back to Manchester was only 2 carriages despite so many other services being cancelled.

Information provided to customers over the announcements at best completely incompetent, at worst a blatant lie.  Train crew not being told what was going on either.

Got Transpennine at 17.47 to Piccadilly. Northern service still hadn’t left 23 minutes late.

DELAY vs 16.54 service - 28 minutes timetabled, actual 34 minutes due to "congestion caused by earlier delayed trains" between Deansgate and Piccadilly.
